PIEVE DI SANT'ANDREINO

La chiesa, in stile romanico, è stata costruita in travertino con abside semicircolare e portale con archivolto e cornice scolpita con motivi geometrici e neonati in fasce. Nell’abside, su una pietra è incisa una data: «A. D. MCI», forse riferibile all’anno di fondazione. Intitolata a Sant’Andrea, in seguito fu denominata Sant’Andreino per distinguerla dall’altra di pari nome del centro storico di Serre. Sull’unico altare era posto, fino alla seconda metà dell’Ottocento, il polittico frammentario di Paolo di Giovanni Fei raffigurante la «Madonna col Bambino e i Santi Giovanni Battista, Andrea, Francesco e il profeta Daniele», ora conservato nella Pinacoteca Nazionale di Siena.

This church in Romanesque style was built in travertine with a semicircular apse and portal with archivolt and frame carved with geometric motifs and babies in swaddling clothes. On a stone of the apse this engraved date A. D. MCI is though to be the year of foundation. Firstly entitled to Sant’Andrea it was later named Sant’Andreino to distinguish it from another church of the same name situated in the ancient center of Serre. The fragmentary polyptych by Paolo di Giovanni Fei with the “Madonna and Child with Saints John the Baptist, Andrew, Francis and the Prophet Daniel” was placed on the only altar until the second half of the nineteenth century. Now preserved in the National Picture Gallery of Siena.
